I remember that when we were young, we went with Dad twice to see a concert in London. I remember seeing the Tchaikowsky 1812 ouverture with real canons in the Royal Albert Hall ...loud bangs and lots of smoke! Fantastic! I think about this every time I play there. The other was when we saw Haydn's
"Farewell" symphony in the Festival Hall. One by one, the musicians left the stage. I asked Dad, "Where are they going?". Much later I discovered that Haydn had written the music as a hint to his employer that it was time for holiday! So cool! These are two lasting impressions. Now I'm part of that scene! Thanks for that Dad!

Dear Dad
Thank you for always being so kind and patient
You were behind me giving me confidence when I was learning to ride a bike and spent hours and hours in a car patiently teaching me to drive
You made sure I was a good swimmer, we spent many happy summers in the pool at Almners Road
And your humour, when I was young I asked you if you played a musical instrument and it took me a moment when you retorted
Oh yes a gramophone
That’s always made me laugh
Thank you & love
Gill
